1n 1991 a number of Palestinian graduates, among whom journalist Jafar, initiated the foundation of The Committee for Educational Guidance for Arab Students (CEGAS). Its objective was to support young people in the Arabic community in their studies in higher education in Israel. Various projects were started. The Foundation supported the institution of a library with Arabic textbooks and a research project on the position of Palestinians in Israel. The results are translated into Arabic and widely available to the Arabic public.
CEGAS also provides accommodation for Palestinian students.
In 1997 a center for their own was founded in Haifa, the Mossawa Center.
Until now Jafar Farah has been the managing director. The Mossawa center is a NGO asserting equal rights for the Arabic Palestinian inhabitants of Israel.
‘Mossawa’ is the Arabic word for ‘equality’.
