is head of the department of Pharmacology at the Faculty of Health Studies at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) in Beer Sheva. During the working visit in 1997 we met Riad at the University. He was introduced to us by Jafer Farah in connection with a scholarship application by Rania. She was the first Bedouin woman wanting to study medicine.
Later Riad was appointed Academic Director of The Center for Bedouin Studies at Ben Gurion Universiteit. He dedicated himself to the improvement of the position of Bedouins at the University.
As a self-imposed task he developed a 2 year introductory course for Bedouin youngsters to prepare them for the BGU entrance exam. This course is still taught to this very day.
